My favourite film opening sequence
Back to the Future is one of my favourite films and I think it has a brilliant opening sequence. You can hear clocks ticking in the background before they are shown and the whole scene gives a clue as to who and what the film is about. It shows science experiments and professors which suggest science is going to be a major part of the film. There is also a news reader on the TV talking about plutonium which is then shown in the room to further suggest significant items in the film. The sequence is quite clever for the time it was made, which can be told by things like how dated the TV is. The titles could be more interested, as they come in the same way each time, but it is more about the background and the titles do not distract from this. In the opening sequence a below the knee shot is the first view of the character and then his hands are seen. This adds mystery to who the character is and what the film is about. A close up of a guitar is then seen which zooms all the way out to a long shot of the whole setting in a room.
